The Jewish-Medieval Heritage of Erfurt is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Take a very special tour into the early Middle Ages with a guided tour through the exhibition of the Museum Alte Synagoge and the Jewish ritual bath Mikvah. The Old Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in Central Europe that has been preserved up to its roof. Construction began as early as 1100. Rediscovered in recent years, the synagogue has been home to an extraordinary museum since 2009. In addition to the history of the building and its use, the Erfurt Treasure is also on display. This gold and silver find was first unearthed in 1998 during construction work in the old town. This treasure trove in the form of medieval utensils, jewelry and coins is unique in the world in terms of its type and composition. Since September 2023, the ensemble of synagogue, mikvah and the Stone House has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
